A very special Grandma!!
My grandma was Dutch,& she made a big impact on me.My father died when I was 9
yrs.old ,we had 2 grandmothers living
with us .My moms mother lived there too,It was a big help to mom ,because she supported
mom in keeping check on us kids.
There was 4 of us ,& I was the oldest, & my brother Tom was born after my father
died.
Mom washed other peoples clothes& we had a small wagon to
take the peoples clothes home,so that was up to us kids to get them home. Some times Mrs.
Lucas would treat us to strawberry
ice cream, home made at that .Mom got a dollar a basket ,We had a wringer washer & water
was carried from the cistern.
My one grandma was a real hustler, she was taking feathers off the geese & ducks for
pillows & feather beds. She found time to pick blackberries& making blackberry Jam ,as that was her
trade mark ,blackberry jam ,& home made biscuts,& hers was
wonderful. She put Love in everything she did.She was always telling us kids the right &
wrong of things. She never sit down
without working on a quilt for someones bed.We lived in Ky where it was really cold .
My mom was strick on respecting peoples property. Those things
have stayed with me ,Sassing was never allowed.
My granddaughter is in Holland now with her husband, who is
there for some schooling,so she sent me some pics. from there
She says she will send me a picture of a church in Holland.
Us kids were really blessed to have come from this family.
